A writing workshop in the heart of DC
The Petworth Library's writers workshops are made up of people from a variety of backgrounds and writing levels: beginners, veteran wordsmiths and emeriti. We write creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry and scripts.
Unlike pay-for-play or academic workshops, participants of community workshops have the opportunity to forge sustained relationships with the membership, allowing for peers to get to know each other. This works in contrast to many workshops that frequently involve participants placing their personal opinion over what's valuable to the piece or the writer. Come join a community group and we can help each other brainstorm and put our pens to paper.
Here's a small sample of what has been produced or workshopped in our workshops:
Jeopardy by Ruth Aitken (short story)
We Are All But Fumbling Creatures by Chad B. Anderson (short story)
Freedom City by Philip Becnel (novel)
Dog Gone Missing by Amy Mall (nonfiction)
Mount P by Denise Robbins(short story)
The Telephone Game by Brittany Selah Lee-Bey (short story)
Now We Are Here by Christina Tudor(short story)
Stories No One Wants to Hear by Christopher Stevenson(short story)
When the Apricots Bloom by Gina Wilkinson (novel)
The Petworth Library holds the DC Writes writers workshop every other Wednesday.
While we are looking at in-person meetups in March, we are currently meeting over Zoom.
