Ditch the plastic bags and make enough reusable bags for everyone during a sewing social.
Tired of relying on plastic bags? Join the Labs for a group sewing event where everyone will leave with a handmade, reusable bag called a Morsbag. You will learn the various steps of how to make the bag during the first part of the workshop, then form an “assembly line” to create as many Morsbags as possible, which will then be distributed to attendees.
All supplies will be provided, but patrons are encouraged to bring any non-stretch fabric they’d like to upcycle–linens, curtains, and even old clothes can make great Morsbags! While you will need to have completed a sewing machine reservation in order to use our sewing machines, this event is open to anyone–if you can trace a template or cut out fabric, you can help us cut, pin, and assemble.
This workshop will take place on the A Level of the Martin Luther King Jr. Library. For reasonable accommodation requests, please contact DCPLaccess@dc.gov or call 202-727-2142.
