Meet local authors Laura Hankin and Nikki Payne as they discuss their new books The Daydreams & Pride and Protest. Audience Q&A and will follow the reading, and books will be available for purchase.
Laura Hankin is the author of The Daydreams, Happy & You Know It and A Special Place for Women. Her musical comedy has been featured in publications like the New York Times and the Washington Post, and she is developing projects for film and TV. She lives in Washington DC, where she once fell off a treadmill twice in one day.
By day, Nikki Payne is a curious Dr. of Anthropology in Big Tech. By night, she dreams of ways to subvert canon literature. Inspired by Jane Austen, her fresh romances turn expectations on their head and deliver sharp, social commentary for the hopeless romantic. Featured in People magazine, Buzzfeed Books, Bustle and Oprah Daily, and named one of the "Most Anticipated Romances of 2022" by BookBub, her debut novel, Pride and Protest was a 2022 Phenomenal Book Club pick and has been hailed "incandescent" by the Washington Post. Her next novel Sex, Lies, and Sensibility is Schitt's Creek meets Insecure and is equal parts hot and heartwarming. Nikki Payne is a member of Smut U, a premium feminist writing collective, and is a cat lady with no cats.
