Spotlight on Religion Series
Capitol Hill resident Nancy Carol James will examine the life and times of Pope John Paul II and his impact on the world stage.
The great spiritual leader, Pope John Paul II, participated in many of the powerful events in the 20th and 21st centuries. John Paul II experienced the horrors of World War 2 as he watched the occupation and destruction of his homeland, Poland. He watched his entire family die, and he went underground to study to become a priest. Working in a factory, he knew the fatigues of physical labor, yet, when he became pope, he strode out on the Vatican balcony with courage proclaiming, "Be not afraid!"
This theme became his great message to humanity, even after knowing the violence of being shot and experiencing great challenges leading the Roman Catholic Church. He lived brutal realities while keeping faith alive. In this talk we will look at his major life struggle and how his powerful faith developed. As we examine his life, we may ponder the mysteries of our own time and lives.
Nancy Carol James is a published author and a noted scholar of the works of Madame Guyon.
