Come visit the library during Hispanic Heritage Month and view 16 original artworks by local DC-based Latinx artists!
From September 15th to October 15th we will be displaying prints, drawings, and paintings from five local Latinx artists -- Carolina Mayorga, Ric Garcia, Carlos Carmonamedina, Veronica Melendez, and Irene Clouthier -- curated by Phil Hutinet of East City Arts. Art will be hung throughout the library on all three floors and will include biographical information and artist statements from the artists themselves.
Brochures for a self-guided tour of Galería del barrio will be available at the information desks.
A children's Galería del barrio scavenger hunt will be held within the gallery itself during Art All Night at the Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood Library on Friday, September 23rd from 5pm - 10pm. Children who complete the scavenger hunt will receive a prize.
On Saturday, October 15th the Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood Library will be distributing FREE coloring books made in collaboration with Carolina Mayorga, Ric Garcia, Carlos Carmonamedina, Veronica Melendez, and Irene Clouthier. These coloring books include images of Mt. Pleasant, Columbia Heights, the library, as well as the various countries and cultures that our patrons are from. Coloring books were made in response to survey responses from patrons and are supported by the Mt. Pleasant Library Friends.
Thank you to District Bridges Columbia Heights / Mt. Pleasant Main Street and the Friends of Mt. Pleasant Library for supporting this exhibit.
