Kick off DC Reads at the Library of Congress National Book Festival!
Author Clint Smith will be talking about his book How the Word Is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America, this year's DC Reads selection. How the Word Is Passed was named a Best Book of 2021 by The New York Times, among other media outlets. Clint will be in conversation with Frederick Wherry. Frederick Wherry is a Townsend Martin, Class of 1917 Professor of Sociology at Princeton University and Director of the Dignity and Debt Network, a partnership between the Social Science Research Council and Princeton.
DC Reads is a month-long DC Public Library event that brings the city together to read and discuss one book. This year's title is the award-winning "How the Word is Passed" by Clint Smith. During the month of September join members of the community for discussions and events focused on the works that have informed this title and our own local history related to slavery. Take an opportunity to be a part of a community that reads together.
Books bring us together! Gather together with us over Labor Day weekend for the 2022 National Book Festival as we return to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Saturday, Sept. 3. If you can't join us in Washington, D.C., a selection of programs will be livestreamed, and video of all presentations can be viewed online after the Festival concludes.
