Read and discuss the books that inspired Broadway musicals, enriching understanding and enjoyment of both! This month's selection is "Ragtime" by E.L Doctorow and the musical of the same name.

We typically meet the fourth Thursday of the month at the Northeast Neighborhood Library at 6:30pm in the Mezzanine Conference Room. This month we will meet virtually due to the ongoing health emergency. Please click "Register" or email Jeff at jeffrey.gluckman@dc.gov for link to virtual meeting room.

Ragtime is a novel by E. L. Doctorow, published in 1975. It is a work of historical fiction mainly set in the New York City area from 1902 until 1912, following the lives of a wealthy family who engage with influential historical figures of the era. "Ragtime" the  musical with music by Stephen Flaherty, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and a book by Terrence McNally, debuted on Broadway in 1998, expanding the story to include the interlaced lives of several families involved great migrations and upheavals of the time period.
