Join us for a retelling of Belle, the Last Mule at Gee’s Bend about an ordinary mule that played a singular part in the civil rights movement of the 1960s.
Library staff and special guests will share the story of Belle, the Last Mule at Gee’s Bend by Calvin Alexander Ramsey and Bettye Stroud on Facebook Live.
Miz Pettway tells young Alex about the historic role her mule and other mules played in Gee’s Bend, Alabama and Alex begins to understand a significant time in history in a very personal way.
This event celebrates MLK Week by featuring a story about a community that was inspired by a visit from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
A craft project will follow the story.
