Join the Mount Pleasant Village for Poetry, Music and Song
Saint Brigid is one of the three patron saints of Ireland, along with St. Patrick and St. Columba, and the only female. She is also the patron saint of healers, poets, beer, blacksmiths and dairy workers, as well as a figure associated with creativity and womanhood.
Her feast day is February 1, which is also the first day of Imbolc--or Spring--in Ireland. In Celtic tradition, predating the actual saint, she is celebrated as a goddess with three aspects: the maiden, the mother and the crone. In 2023, 1500 years after her death, the Irish government initiated a national holiday in honor of Brigid on the first Monday of February each year.
Come to Mount Pleasant Library at 11:30am on Friday, January 31st, when Mount Pleasant Village's Paddy Meskell will introduce Brigid, the goddess and the saint, through poetry, stories and song on the Celtic feast of Spring.
Registration available if you would like event reminders - it is not required to attend.
